Answers on the CROSS Comics

1. What can you learn from the CROSS in this comic?
The cross signifies salvation. Salvation means deliverance from the power and effects of sin. It also means preservation from destruction or failure, and deliverance from danger and difficulties (Webster’s definition). Through salvation came the blessings, wisdom, gifting, abundant riches, success, and all other heavenly blessings. Ultimately, it leads us into eternal glory and eternal communion with God the Father. To cut short the cross literally means to cut short the protection and deliverance layer upon our lives which are from God. God had already pre-warned us to work out our salvation through fear and trembling.

2. What can you learn about the GAP (ravine) in this comic?
The gap represents problems and challenges in our lives. This could be problems in our work or school, relationship problem with our closed friends and relatives, sicknesses, incurable diseases, lost of the love ones, accident, and any bad things that are unforeseen.

3. Who decided to cut short the CROSS and who actually did it?
God gives us the daily cross for us to take it up. If God gives to us, He knows that we should have the ability (grace) to take it up. If not, He could have given us a smaller one in the beginning. Therefore, it is us who decided to cut short the cross so that it can be easily carry.

4. What can you learn on the last picture?
The last picture tells us the consequence of taking salvation lightly. Many of us believe in God but refused to obey His command and to serve Him (taking up daily cross). If we only believe in Him and did not find time to serve Him and stay close to Him, we will not know Him because we have limited knowledge about Him. When problem hit us, we will find out that God can only do a little (the cross is too short, cannot cross over the gap), and there seems to be no solution from God, thus, we will then conclude that God is not that strong after all and that He can’t really solve our problems. Our love with Him grows colder. As a result, many people have drifted away and gone back to the world.

5. At the end, did the person move faster than the rest of the group? What does it tell you?
Repentance will always bring restoration. Once we repent, God is always eager to give us His new cross again for us to cross over. However, we will be slower. Our spiritual growth, compared to others, will be slower.

6. What other things that you can learn here?
Daily cross is not a heavy cross. God never put a heavy cross for us to take up. The weight of the cross is determined by how much we drawn into the world. If we spent time doing things of the world more than doing things of God, we will find our cross become heavier, and we would like to cut it shorter (taking short cuts) because it is easier to carry. If you find there is a struggle between attending a worship conference (required by pastor) and watching English Premier League, it means you have sensed heaviness on the cross. If you find there is a struggle between attending an important prayer meeting and staying home watching CSI or Desperate Housewives show, it means you have sensed heaviness on the cross. You want to cut it shorter? Or, you rather continue to carry the so called heavy cross of yours?

On the other hand, the more we do the things of God, the lighter the weight will be on the cross. Doing things of God involving a sacrificial thing called “Die to Self”, when we are dying to ourselves, we will find the cross is lighter (“My yoke is easy and light”) because our dependence is no longer in the world, but in God. Ultimately, when we face challenges, we will not be afraid, because God is on our side and our cross will able to bring us to the next level. Glory to God!
