Tower of Babel - Failed because of too successful (Sept-20, Sharing)
The story of the Tower of Babel is recorded in Genesis 11:1-8. Just 8 verses, but contain lots of BIG IDEA for us to learn and apply today.
Questions:
1. What would happen if God never confuse their language and allow them to build the tower?
They will build the tower and put their creativity belongs to them rather than from God - “Hey God, I am as good as You are, may be I can even better than You”. This kind of attitude often happen in our lives without us realizing it. Sometimes we often think that we are smarter than our teachers (well, of course, in Malaysian SMK's, certain % of this can be TRUE, but not in general), often, we think our parents are really stupid and can't think straight on certain things. So, we tends to out-smart them. Once we did it, then we will say, "You see, it's me who did it" or "You see, I told you so!". It is not wrong to pin point if it is the fault from teachers or our parents, but sometimes we just never realized without our parents, we won't be out of this world. Without our teachers, we can't said we passed standard 6 by ourselves, or we have 10A's by ourselves. Often, we were so proud and we forgot to show gratitude to our teachers and parents whom God had ordained them over us.
2. Can the tower able to reach heaven? Why?
No, it won't. Today, we all know that because someone and flew up to the sky and found none. It's a spiritual world and a physical world; today, we don't have to build a tower to meet God, He lives inside of us, we can communicate everyday with God.
3. Why God want to confuse them?
God's will for them is to multiply and subdue the whole earth, not to be concentrated at one area. Genesis 9:1 shows the command of God to mankind to be fruitful and subdue the whole earth; men's rebellion leads to their down fall when they don't want to be scattered to the face of the earth.
What Can We Learn?
1. The power of unity – it can generate things beyond our imagination.
2. The power of infinite creativity in mankind – a great creation by God.
3. God oppose the proud and give grace to the humble.
4. God will destroy any united work that is not of His will.
5. When you become too successful, don’t forget God.
How Can We Apply?
1. Stay together, work together, and love one another – be united in LOVE, this is what God desires of you.
2. Understand that when you have a family quarrel, it is a destructive work that can destroy family unity – resolve immediately.
3. Thank God everyday that you have the power to create things because you are unique and full of creativity, not because of your parents, but because of the great Creator. "Nothing that you plan to do will be impossible for you"
